PAJ had established six bases in Japan and five bases overseas by the end of June 1996, to stockpile oil spill response equipment and lend it to those in need on request in the event of a major oil spill.
The stockpiled equipment is mostly large, high-performance types, with only a few of each retained in Japan. Each piece of equipment is stored in a dedicated container, together with its accessories, to enable it to be dispatched immediately and properly in the event of an emergency. In principle, PAJ lends out the equipment in container units. Since much of the equipment is foreign-made and the latest models, PAJ also provides personnel training on how to use the equipment. |
