Disposition of PAJfs Oil Spill Equipment

June 2008

Petroleum Association of Japan (PAJ) decided to dispose some of the oil spill equipment that were acquired in the early stage of PAJfs gMajor Oil Spill Response Programmeh.

These equipment came from the replacement of the old ones that have been used for almost ten years.

Oil spill response programme in PAJ is based on the following principle:

gPAJ will lend the equipment in the event of a major oil spill incident to the parties concerned with free of charge. After the use, the users shall clean, check and repair them at userfs expense and return to PAJ base.h

But, there is a possibility that the aged equipment breaks down or that it connot be used well in the emergency due to the decrease in strength and the processing performance, etc., or it might cost a lot for the users from the viewpoint of repair obligation.

These oil booms, skimmers and other equipment were purchased in the FY 1995, 1996 and 1997. But, PAJ believes these equipment still can be used in normal operation or training purpose. This is the reason that PAJ will seek the applicants to purchase them.
